The suburban community of East Meadow on Long Island offers a number of picturesque beaches and marinas from which to enjoy the Atlantic Ocean. Whether you like relaxing in the sun and sand, fishing, boating, taking a cruise, or something more adventurous like sea kayaking, you will find a variety of options in the East Meadow area.
Some of the area’s beaches include Lido Beach, Point Lookout, Harbor Isle, and Bay Park. During the summer months you will enjoy the beautiful Sands "Drive-in" Family Picnic and Beach Park on Lido Boulevard. The beach offers the fun and excitement of sand and surf, as well as an outdoor pool, picnic gazebos with barbeques and recreational areas.
If you like boating, you will find both large and small waterways to accommodate your interests.
With the Atlantic Ocean as a southern border and a system of inland waterways dotting the mainland around Hempstead and East Meadow, the town boasts a long nautical heritage. There are also a number of boating-related businesses and services in the area. The Hempstead area is situated among 17,000 acres of wetlands and 180 miles of coastal waterways, which are a tremendous and pristine asset for the use of nature and marine recreational enthusiasts.
The four marinas operated by the Department of Conservation and Waterways can accommodate some 600 pleasure craft and party boats. The Guy Lombardo Marina in Freeport, the Inwood Marina in Inwood and the East Marina in Point Lookout provide free pump-out stations for the use of area boats. The West Marina in Point Lookout and the Inwood Marina on Jamaica Bay provide excellent facilities to the boating public. In addition, the Department maintains more than 300 aids to navigation.
Other marinas in the area include the Blue Water Yacht Club and Yachtsmen's Cove. Launch ramps can be found at Atlantic Avenue, Albany Avenue, Bay Park, Town of Hempstead West Marina, Town of Hempstead Inwood Marina, Inwood Park, and Wantagh Park.
